The setup wizard

After the first sign-in, the setup wizard walks you through the first choices. Each step has a recommended answer, and you can change everything later.

The first step of the setup wizard

How do you want to start?

  • Set up fresh: a new Linx.
  • Restore from a backup: bring back a Linx you backed up before. See Restoring from a backup.

The steps

  1. Place: a business or a home. It sets sensible defaults. A business also answers When are you open?: the open days and from when to when (Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00 unless you change it). These become your office hours.
  2. Country: where your phone lines are, from any country. It decides how phone numbers are read, which emergency numbers always work, and the extension numbers suggested next (in North America they start at 200, because numbers starting with 1 are outside calls there).
  3. Numbers: how many digits extension numbers have (3 digits, like 101, suits most offices), and which numbers are for people, for shared phones and so on. You can change the ranges, for example people from 200 to 499.
  4. People: add yourself and the people who’ll use Linx. Each gets an invite link and a QR code; once email is set up, Email everyone their invite sends each person theirs too. See People and invite links.
  5. Line: connect a phone company or your own phone system now, or Later. See Phone lines.
  6. Calls: what your phones may call. Calls abroad and premium-rate numbers are off until you turn them on; with calls abroad on, you can allow every country or only the ones you choose. See What phones can call.
  7. Test: call *43 from your browser. It plays back what you say, so you can hear your microphone works.
